MCP configuration checker

Find local stdio JSON errors before opening your client. Nothing is executed or uploaded.

Check a Claude Desktop local configuration

Local stdio JSON only, up to 100 KiB. Processed in page memory, never saved, uploaded or executed. Replace real keys with placeholders first.

Check result

Paste a configuration to begin. Editing clears the previous result.

How to use the result

Choose the local stdio configuration from Claude Desktop, then replace secrets before pasting. This checker parses JSON and examines mcpServers, command, optional args and string-valued env. It checks neither remote transports nor Codex TOML. Results use ordinal server paths so private server names never appear in the report. Unknown fields are not declared invalid protocol features; they remain unverified.

A worked example

The placeholder example uses python and server.py; it is a shape example, not an installed server. Change args to [4] and check again: a string-array error should appear. Replace it with ["server.py"] and the covered structure passes. YOUR_API_KEY still produces a reminder to supply a value safely in the actual client. Never paste a real key just to clear the warning.

What this cannot establish

Valid structure does not establish that a command exists, a package is trustworthy or permissions are appropriate. Variable expansion differs between clients and is not simulated. Duplicate JSON keys are not detected by this JSON parser. The tool never launches a server, resolves credentials or scans your filesystem. Its safe report contains only fixed diagnostics, not your configuration. Reviewed against the MCP local-server guide on October 16, 2026.
