How Git-Stars collects data, uses analytics, and handles advertising disclosures

Introduction

Git-Stars is an independent GitHub open-source discovery site. We help visitors compare public repositories using ranking signals, short summaries, and AI-assisted editorial analysis. This policy explains what information we collect from visitors and how third-party services may process data when you use the site.

Git-Stars is not affiliated with GitHub Inc. Repository names, descriptions, stars, forks, issues, and other project metadata come from public sources and link back to the original GitHub pages whenever practical.

Information We Collect

We may collect information that you provide directly, such as your name, email address, and message content when you contact us or create an account.

We may also collect basic usage and device information, including pages viewed, referring URLs, browser type, device type, approximate location derived from IP address, timestamps, and diagnostic logs. This information helps us maintain the site, measure performance, prevent abuse, and understand which open-source sections are useful to visitors.

Public Repository Data

Git-Stars stores and displays public GitHub repository metadata, including repository name, owner, description, language, topics, license, stars, forks, issues, watchers, activity timestamps, and source links. We may use short README-derived summaries or install notes, but we do not intentionally mirror full README files, project documentation, GitHub issues, discussions, or social media comment threads.

If you believe a project page is inaccurate, missing attribution, or should be reviewed, please contact us with the repository URL and the Git-Stars page URL.

Cookies and Similar Technologies

Git-Stars and third-party services may use cookies, local storage, web beacons, IP addresses, or similar identifiers to keep the site secure, remember basic preferences, measure traffic, analyze performance, and, if advertising is enabled, serve and measure ads.

If Google AdSense or other Google advertising products are used on the site, Google and its partners may place or read cookies on your browser or use web beacons, IP addresses, and other identifiers as a result of ad serving. Google may use the data collected on this site as described in: How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

Advertising and Consent

If personalized advertising is enabled, Git-Stars will follow applicable consent requirements, including the Google EU User Consent Policy for visitors from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland. Where required, we will ask for consent before using cookies or identifiers for personalized ads, measurement, or related purposes.

We do not intentionally pass personally identifiable information to Google in ad requests. We also do not use Google advertising products to create audience segments based on sensitive information such as health, financial hardship, ethnicity, religion, political affiliation, union membership, sexual behavior, or sexual orientation.

Optional analytics and ad-measurement scripts are not loaded until a visitor chooses the "Accept ads and analytics" option on the consent banner. Choosing "Essential only" keeps non-essential analytics and ad-measurement scripts disabled in the browser.

How We Use Information

We use collected information to:

  • operate, secure, and improve Git-Stars;
  • respond to support, correction, privacy, and attribution requests;
  • measure traffic and product quality;
  • identify abusive or automated activity;
  • improve repository discovery, rankings, and editorial analysis;
  • comply with legal, policy, and platform requirements.

Third-Party Services

Git-Stars may use third-party providers for hosting, analytics, authentication, email, security, and advertising. These providers process data according to their own policies and our configuration. We aim to use only the data needed for the service being provided.

Data Retention and Security

We keep visitor and account information only as long as needed for operation, security, support, legal, or policy reasons. We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.

Your Choices

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Some features may not work correctly if cookies or local storage are disabled. If an advertising consent banner is shown in your region, you can use it to manage applicable ad and analytics choices. You can also review Google ad personalization choices at Google Ad Settings and learn how Google uses partner-site data at Google's partner-sites policy.

For privacy requests, corrections, or deletion questions, contact us at support@gitstar-pro.com.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this policy when our product, advertising configuration, or legal requirements change. The date at the top of this page reflects the latest published update.
